Slip on Oceanview Rd

Waiheke experience a big wet overnight with slips, floods and lost gardens. The big wet started at around 10 pm Wednesday night and lasted about 3 hours.

Not sure what caused the smell, but man, it was vomitous. The ride home was just like the stench we have to walk through getting off the boat, to the power of ten

I see that Clause Lewenz claims to represent Waiheke Island residents in action to reduce helicopter flights to and from the island. I am sure there are plenty of Waiheke businesses that support the use of helicopters to bring revenue to the island. These are people who are not only trying to make a living on the island and are providing much needed jobs for island residents.

I would suggest Claude, that you don’t represent me and many other island residents and there is a lovely little island called Great Barrier that you might like to go and take your money to.

The interesting thing about cell phone towers is that more is actually better. The more towers the less area each tower has to cover. It then can be run at a lower power. More importantly your cellphone, that you carry in your pocket right next to your reproductive organs or hold up to your brain, can transmit at lower power levels. Now doesn’t that seem like a good idea. Oh, and your battery lasts longer in a good coverage area.

Fantastic to see that Auckland saved 1% power by switching lights off for Earth Hour. Goes to show that as so many Auckland houses now have Eco bulbs that the power saving was minimal. Well done Auckland!

Being a commuter I have travelled past the Litehouse every working day, twice a day.It has been complete for some time now,and I have to say, I don’t like it. It may have modern building techniques, it may be energy efficient but it is bloody ugly. I guess we are lucky there is a category for it, the same one the Toyota Prius is in.

I am pleased to see Fullers don’t put a silly little tsunami ahead of profits. A friend on the 8:15 from Auckland to Waiheke tells me that Fullers waited until the ferry had departed before advising passengers of the tsunami and the beach races were postponed. Good one lads.

Summer, sun, patio, paving slabs….. The Cynic decided a patio was the go for summer,  found a rather nice 600 x 600 paving slab, 20 in stock, hardly enough but hey, surely they can get some more. No, alas the Placemakers re order system relies on the guy that makes them coming in and checking stock, problem is the guy that makes them hasn’t been told this. Fortunately the guy that makes them is just around the corner, has stock, and in $2.00 a slab cheaper.

Which brings me to another point. Have you noticed how many Waiheke enterprises can’t be bothered opening weekends. The Tank Shop is one that springs to mind, I  want a new tank but guess what, I go to work 5 days a week, so how the hell am I going to buy one.

And the GET A BIG BLACK DOG award goes to Waiheke’s  Cable Bay whose Maitre d accused a visiting party of lawyers of smoking dope. The Cynic will not be recommending Cable Bay again. Stick with Mudbrick.

Caught the 5:00 tonight, against the tide of meeting a group of friends for drinks on the 5:30. As it happens, a good move, the 5:30 broke down. Good to see Fullers is up to normal standards of operation.

Well 2009 is all but done and dusted. Unless something radical happens I will be back ranting as usual in the new year.
