It was with some amusement, well okay, it was seriously funny, to see the newly installed Air Conditioner units on the Quick Cat (or is that ickcat) piddle all over passengers last Thursday. I am guessing a line will be added to the operation manual that the Air Conditioning must only run in flat conditions. It was certainly worth putting up with the Jet Raider.

Is it only me that sees a parallel between Jake the Muss and Auckland City Council. In spite of a clear signal from Waiheke that we don’t want wheelie bins, it seems that we are going to get them.

If the relationship between Waiheke and the Auckland City Council had been a marriage I am sure it would have ended up in the divorce courts long ago. We have constantly had our purses raided, told what we want and dutifully ignored. With Matiatia development, wharf taxes and wheelie bins as recent examples one can’t help think that Nobby just might be right!

The Cynic can’t help feeling that the Auckland City Councils proposal to sell Waiheke’s halls and venues is a deliberate attempt to silence John Stansfield. Remove the venues and you remove his forum. The only other plausible explanation is the big sell up before the umbilical is cut and we join Thames Coromandel.

Watching the C4FF (Campaign for Fair Fares) crew setting up their $44 food stand protest on Wednesday I couldn’t help thinking that Fullers have been hoisted by their own petard. Holding the prices down over the years has done no-one any favours. If Fullers had done regular and progressive fare increases over the years I am sure no-one would have batted an eyelid.

While the Cynic was riding the third boat out this morning he overheard a paasenger telling the following story.

” I went to get my monthly pass and a beer from the cafeteria on board - the guy serving said he would put the monthly pass transaction through first. Transaction completed he then pointed out that the beer was less that the $5 minimum credit card transaction and would he like to buy some nuts with that!”

For once in my life words fail me!!
